Red Herring Comedy Club

PETER BRUSH + BECKY UMBERS + ABI CARTER SIMPSON + MC CARL JONES

Saturday 14th June 2025

Doors: 19:30

PETER BRUSH

A highly distinctive performer and deft writer of finely crafted jokes, Peter Brush unassumingly takes the stage with his slight bespectacled frame and scruffy hair, before consummately conquering it with an arsenal of razor sharp quirky one-liners and peerlessly original routines, all delivered in an amusingly awkward fashion.

Peter performs at all the major clubs across the UK, as well as having done many of it’s biggest festivals, he has also played shows in Switzerland, Norway and Hungary. Formerly a BBC New Comedy Award finalist, he has written for several BBC Radio 4 shows and was the support act for Alexei Sayle’s most recent tour. Other acts he has supported on tour include Jonathan Pie, Jason Manford, Fern Brady, Arthur Smith and Paul Sinha.

BECKY UMBERS

A small girl that gets big laughs, Becky Umbers is a multi-award winning comedian from New Zealand.

With a unique take on life and the voice to match, Becky was nominated for Best Female Comedian NZ 2022 (NZ Comedy Guild Awards). She’s already made her mark in NZ and is ready to bring her quirky storytelling and observations to the UK comedy scene.

ABI CARTER SIMPSON

Abi’s performing career spans over a decade. From comedian to singer, actress to presenter; be it a comedy club, radio, live theatre, TV or on the big screen, she has consistently strived to entertain and make an audience feel at ease.

Abi’s passion for comedy writing and performing began - ‘Newsrevue’ – the world’s longest running comedy shows which has an alumnus of the likes of Sarah Pasco, Alistair McGowan and Bill Bailey. Many of her songs and parodies have been featured in the show over the years and Newsrevue – EdFringe, a show that she was member of in 2017 performing at The Pleasance Beyond.

Abi was introduced fully to the stand-up comedy world in 2018 and alongside her trusted ukulele for moral support, she hasn’t looked back. She is a regular on the comedy circuit both in London and regionally and has shared the stage with the likes of Stephen K Amon, Romesh Ranganathan and Seann Walsh to name a few.

MC CARL JONES

Midlands comic Carl Jones first hit the circuit in 2011 after winning the Nottingham Comedy Festival Best Newcomer in his first handful of gigs. Since then, he’s gone on to reach the BBC New Comedy Award heats, the latter stages of numerous national new act competitions and gig at some of the top comedy clubs across the UK.

Away from the stage, Carl is a regular contributor to BBC Radio’s comedy output and his writing has been heard on Newsjack, The Show What You Wrote and, most recently, as additional writer on national institution The News Quiz on BBC Radio 4.

With a growing reputation as an engaging storytelling comedian and welcoming MC who is able to play a variety of rooms, he is a regular opener, middle, closer and host for a wide range of comedy clubs of all sizes across the UK.

“Very funny…a breezily entertaining half-hour from a likeable comic.” – Chortle
